[Japan Quake] Renesas Lagging in Production of Automotive Microcomputers

Renesas Electronics Corp stopped production at five front-end process semiconductor plants and three back-end process semiconductor plants due to the earthquakes. Especially, the damage inflicted on its Naka Plant, which is for manufacturing automotive microcomputers, etc, is enormous, and it will probably affect the production of complete cars. The Naka Plant, which is for front-end processes, produces a little less than 20% of Renesas' microcomputers and system chips and a little less than 10% of its analog power semiconductors. Sixty percent of the microcomputers produced at the plant are automotive microcomputers, and they account for about 25% of Renesas' automotive microcomputers.
