Taiwan's China Steel posts quarterly rise in pre-tax earnings

Taipei, April 18 (CNA) China Steel Corp., Taiwan's biggest steelmaker, on Monday reported a quarterly increase of 19 percent in its pre-tax earnings for the first three months of this year. The company's first-quarter pre-tax earnings amounted to NT$7.316 billion (US$251.7 million) , while its pre-tax earnings per share (EPS) was NT$0.54. In March alone, the company posted NT$20.69 billion in sales and NT$3.512 billion in pre-tax earnings, which represented a 29.1 percent and 92.76 percent increase, respectively, from the previous month.
