Recalled Azam vows to regain selectors' faith through performances

India Gazette (ANI) Thursday 9th February, 2012

Pakistan cricketer Hammad Azam has vowed to regain the selectors' confidence through his performances to retain his berth in the Pakistan squad.

"I wasn't expecting to be picked. I was in the field when I heard of my selection and it came as a huge surprise to me. I'm delighted and am looking forward to paying back the selectors' trust in me through my performances," The Express Tribune quoted Azam, as saying.

"My target is to cement my place with a good performance. If given the chance, I'll make sure I'm not dropped again. I'm fit and well-prepared because of my participation in the Pentangular Cup. Pakistan's form in the Tests has given me much confidence. It's a motivating factor for me and has reduced the pressure of making a comeback," he added.

His statement came after his selection in the Pakistan squad for the limited-overs series against England.

Azam has scored only 38 runs in three innings in five one-day international matches for Pakistan and was dropped from the squad after the 2011 ODI series against Ireland.

Hammad, who launched his first-class career in 2008, came into the limelight during the 2010 Under-19 World Cup before getting the selectors' nod for the Pakistan's tour of the West Indies in 2011. (ANI)
