Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], March 8 (ANI): Congress leader Amit Chavda on Saturday said that the party unit in Gujarat would take to the streets to raise the voice of the people and to raise the issues of unemployment and inflation. He said that people in the state were facing difficulties under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
He said that Rahul Gandhi, on his two-day visit to Gujarat, held meetings and discussions with all organisational level leaders and workers, giving them a message that all businesses in the state were suffering losses under the BJP government.
'Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held discussions with all organisational level leaders, workers...Today, Rahul Gandhi gave the message that under the rule of the BJP government in Gujarat, all the businesses in the state are at a loss, and people are facing a lot of difficulties. Farmers are dying by suicide. Unemployment and inflation remain. We will raise the voice of the people of Gujarat by taking to the streets,' Chavda, Leader of the Gujarat Congress Legislative Party, told ANI.
Earlier, taking potshots at Rahul Gandhi over his 'conniving from within' remarks aimed at sections of Congress leaders during his visit to Gujarat, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said on Saturday that the Congress leader needs to do 'introspection instead of blaming others'.
Rahul Gandhi, who addressed party workers in Ahmedabad, suggested that some were 'cut off' from the people and half of them were 'in cahoots' with the BJP.
'The statement he gave depicts Congress's internal misery and Rahul Gandhi's typical state of mind,' Trivedi said at a press conference.
'From alleging his party, people, constitutional institutions, and media - he has started blaming his own people. I'll suggest he do self-introspection instead of blaming others,' he said.
'It seems that you (Rahul Gandhi) are in cahoots with several suspicious organisations. In Gujarat, PM Modi built the tallest statue of Sardar Patel, but nobody from the Gandhi family visited. This proves that their attitude changes when their leaders are given actual respect,' he added.
In his remarks, Rahul Gandhi spoke about organisational weakness of Congress in Gujarat where it has been out of power for nearly three decades.
'The leadership of Gujarat, the workers of Gujarat, the district presidents (Congress) of Gujarat, the block presidents, there are two types of people in them, there are divisions. One stands with the people, fights for people, respects the people and has the ideology of the Congress party in his heart. The other is the one who is cut off from the people, sits far away, does not respect the people and half of them are in cahoots with the BJP. Until we do not separate these two, the people of Gujarat cannot believe in us,' Gandhi said.
Earlier today, Gandhi addressed party workers in Ahmedabad on Saturday during the Samvaad program. He emphasised that the Congress Party must first fulfill its responsibilities before asking people for votes.
During the Samvaad program, Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, 'It has been almost 30 years since we have been in power here. Whenever I come here, there are discussions on Assembly elections of 2007, 2012, 2017, 2022, 2027...But the question is not about elections. The people of Gujarat will not make us win the elections until we fulfil our responsibilities...We should not even ask the people of Gujarat to bring us to power until we fulfil our responsibilities. I guarantee you that the day we do this, the people of Gujarat will give their support to the Congress party.' (ANI)
