New Delhi [India], March 12 (ANI): Just as Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma took oath as a member of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Tuesday, the council's Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal highlighted NDMC's priority to ensure a 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Delhi and a Viksit NDMC'.
He also announced that tenders have been issued to ensure constant water supply to the 34 clusters under its control.
'We are all committed to making Viksit Bharat, Viksit Delhi, and Viksit NDMC. Tenders have been issued to ensure that every household in 34 clusters gets water,' Chahal told ANI.
Talking about other decisions to implement night sweeping and focusing on renewable energy, he added, 'This is a big decision that NDMC has made. A mechanism will be developed for night sweeping in the NDMC... We are working to ensure that by May 2026, we can move towards renewable energy... We will ensure that there is no waterlogging in Delhi.'
Earlier today, Parvesh Verma after taking oath, promised the installation of 9,000 new water connections in the next six to eight months.
'There are 34 such slum clusters here, and there is a water problem. In the next 6-7 months, 9,000 new water connections will be installed, benefiting 4,700 people, ensuring clean and safe water,' Verma said.
'A committee has been formed to promote renewable energy and make solar panel installation mandatory. They will submit a report on this. There is a proposal for NDMC to purchase cheaper electricity, which will benefit customers,' Verma added.
The Delhi Minister also said that NDMC gave instructions to solve the waterlogging issue of the national capital.
Verma said, 'We have given instructions regarding the summer action plan to prevent waterlogging. Whether it requires desilting or installing water harvesting machines, desilting work will be carried out.'
He also assured that NDMC will carry out an encroachment drive to ensure clean roads.
'An encroachment drive will be conducted to ensure clean and clear roads in NDMC. The entire NDMC area will be equipped with CCTV cameras to enhance security for everyone, including women.' Verma said.
