Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], March 13 (ANI): Former wrestler and Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre and alleged that the current Westling Federation of India chief Sanjay Singh is a 'dummy' of his predecessor Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The former grappler further said her agitation is still on, and it will be 'unfortunate' if she fails to bring any change in the field of sports.
'Unfortunately, it has been more than 2 years since I have been struggling. Everyone saw the hide-and-seek that the government was trying to play with Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh... Our agitation is still on. If I am unable to bring a change in the field of sports in the state, it will be unfortunate', Vinesh Phogat said to ANI on Wednesday.
Vinesh further said that she doesn't have greed for any position and can give up her seat in a second if she is unable to make a difference.
'I would not like to be part of the assembly if I am unable to do something... The current WFI chief is also a dummy of the previous one... I have not come here with the greed of becoming a minister, CM, or PM. I will give up my seat in a second if I am unable to make a difference', she added.
Earlier, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports lifted the suspension on the Wrestling Federation of India, restoring its recognition as a National Sports Federation (NSF) for the sport.
The Sports Ministry had suspended the WFI body after the newly elected WFI president Sanjay Singh announced the hosting of the U-15 and U-20 nationals at Nandini Nagar in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh in December 2023.
Starting in 2023, several ace wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia spearheaded protests against WFI and its former president Brij Bhushan Singh, alleging him of sexual assault. (ANI)
