New Delhi [India], April 22 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Tuesday expressed concern over the recent incidents of reported attacks on processions held across various states during the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr BR Ambedkar on April 14.
Mayawati stated that these incidents expose the 'double character' of the government.
'On the birth anniversary of Constitution maker Bharat Ratna Param Pujya Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, this time in many states of the country, the incidents of disrespect of his statue and the attack by feudal elements on the program/procession on that occasion, the incidents of many people getting injured are extremely shameful and a proof of the double character of the governments,' she said.
Referring to a specific incident in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, Mayawati said, 'In such tragic cases, especially the incident of killing of a Dalit and many getting injured in the attack on Ambedkar procession in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, is extremely condemnable, in which the state government is in the dock for its clear involvement as strict action has not been taken against the culprits till now.'
She further alleged that caste-based incidents reveal the insincerity behind the events organised by governments in honour of BR Ambedkar.
'Also, it is clear from such casteist incidents that the programmes organised by the Central and State governments on Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's birth anniversary, etc., are all a sham to gain Dalit votes. Dalit society must be cautious of such parties with double standards, character and face,' she added.
The BSP chief called on both the State and Central Governments to take action against such alleged incidents of atrocities against the Dalits.
'Therefore, the central and all state governments should take such incidents of injustice and atrocities on Dalits and disrespect and insult of their great saints, gurus and great men seriously and stop it by taking strict action, otherwise the people of these classes will never forgive them, i.e. the governments must pay attention to this,' she added.
Earlier, Mayawati raised concerns and condemned the recent incident of 'casteist violence' during a Dalit wedding procession in Agra, stating that the increasing atrocities against the poor and Dalits across Uttar Pradesh are 'extremely worrying.'
The BSP chief emphasised that under the rule of the BSP, the government had always stood firmly with the oppressed and ensured justice for the Dalit community. (ANI)
