Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari on Tuesday praised the warm reception received by Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi in Bhopal, calling him the 'hero of caste census.' He credited Rahul Gandhi for compelling Prime Minister Narendra Modi to agree to the demand for conducting a caste-based census.
'The way the citizens of Madhya Pradesh welcomed the hero of the caste census on the streets of Bhopal was unprecedented. I am proud of my leader who made (PM) Narendra Modi bow down that the caste census will happen,' Patwari told ANI.
Rahul Gandhi arrived in Bhopal on Tuesday for a series of party-related engagements. According to the scheduled program, the Congress leader is set to chair a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee at the state Congress office and discuss the current political situation in Madhya Pradesh with senior party leaders.
While addressing a Congress workers' convention, Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at PM Modi, alleging that he yielded to US President Donald Trump's request to ease tensions between India and Pakistan.
'When Trump signalled, Modi ji picked up the phone and said, 'Modi ji, what are you doing? Narendra Surrender' and with 'ji hizoor', Modiji abided by Trump's orders. You would remember a time when a call didn't come, instead the 7th fleet came (from the US), in the 1971 war (the Bangladesh Liberation War), and Indira Gandhi said that she would do what she had to do. This is the difference. This is their (BJP-RSS) character; they are all like this. Since the Independence movement, they have had this habit of writing letters of surrender,' he said.
As part of his visit, the Congress leader will also interact with MPs and MLAs and hold discussions on Sangathan Srijan with party representatives. Additionally, he will attend a special meeting with newly appointed All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers assigned to each district in the state. (ANI)
