New Delhi [India], November 5 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday paid tribute to the late folk singer Sharda Sinha on her first death anniversary, recalling her immense contribution in promoting Bihar's culture and folk traditions through her timeless songs, particularly those associated with the Chhath Mahaparva.
In a post on X, CM Kumar wrote, 'On the death anniversary of Smt. Sharda Sinha ji, the Nightingale of Bihar, honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, we offer our humble tribute to her.'
'The sweet songs sung in her melodious voice during the Chhath Mahaparva by Smt. Sharda Sinha ji continue to resonate even today across Bihar and all parts of the country. Her memory will forever remain cherished in the land of Bihar, the world of music, and among music lovers,' he further wrote.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, popularly known as the 'Bihar Kokila', on her first death anniversary, recalling her immense contribution to Bihar's cultural heritage and Indian folk music.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, 'On the first death anniversary of Bihar Kokila Sharda Sinha ji, a heartfelt tribute to her. She gave a new identity to Bihar's art and culture through folk songs, for which she will always be remembered. Her melodious songs associated with the great festival Chhath will forever remain etched in the hearts of the people.'

Sharda Sinha, known for her melodious voice and timeless Chhath songs, was a household name in Bihar and across India. Her music, rooted in the folk traditions of the state, played a major role in popularising Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Magahi songs across generations.
Popular Folk singer Sharda Sinha, celebrated for her soulful Chhath songs, died on November 5 last year, after battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, for several years. The Padma Bhushan awardee had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi after being admitted on October 27, 2024.
Sharda Sinha was a veteran of the music scene since the 1970s and contributed immensely to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music. Her work was recognised with the Padma Bhushan in 2018, and she was also honoured with a National Film Award for her contributions to regional cinema. (ANI)
