New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): As the Winter Session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly got underway on Monday, Delhi ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ashish Sood highlighted the significance of the proceedings, with key issues such as governance, pollution and public accountability expected to be taken up during the four-day session.
Sirsa asserted that the Rekha Gupta government had achieved more in the last 11 months than the previous Aam Aadmi Party government did in 11 years, calling for discussions on pollution, the CAG report and the Chief Minister's residence to ensure transparency before the public.
'This is the first session of the new year, and today the Lieutenant Governor will address the House. It is a matter of pride for all of us that in the last 11 months, Rekha Gupta's government has accomplished many things that the previous government could not do in 11 years... There should be a discussion on pollution, a problem created by the 11-year-long Aam Aadmi Party government and the previous Congress government. Information regarding all these matters, the CAG report, and the Chief Minister's residence should be brought before the public,' he told ANI.
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood said, 'This is an important session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Today, the Lieutenant Governor will deliver his address, and he will discuss the government's programs. This assembly session has been convened to discuss important issues related to Delhi, and it will last for four days.'
The winter session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly commenced on January 5 (Monday), i.e., today, and will continue until January 8.
The first legislative sitting of 2026 is unfolding against a backdrop of heightened scrutiny of governance, making the Winter Session less a routine calendar exercise and more a checkpoint on how effectively the administration responds to questions of performance and accountability.
As the first Assembly engagement of the new year, the session carries added significance. Issues of development delivery, administrative efficiency and financial discipline are likely to dominate proceedings, offering early signals on how effectively the state machinery is responding to civic challenges.
The session formally commenced today with the address of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, at 11 am, following which the regular sitting of the House began. The Winter Session is scheduled to run until January 8, with sittings on the opening day starting in the morning and subsequent sittings beginning at 2 pm. (ANI)
